Requires AI replies, Message Content access and the community privacy notice in Conversations. A short slice of recent conversation helps interpret “it” or “instead”. Interpretation uses your shared AI allowance; it does not send an extra reply.

Mention confirmed contributions in meeting reminders

Up to three members in existing advance and day-of reminders, without pinging them. Public sources and permissions are checked again before inclusion. Changes can quietly update an existing reminder.

Meeting title contains

Uses the next matching event that passes your calendar filters. A changed date starts a fresh list.

In Discord: /meeting-plan shows this channel’s list. Add or replace a note with action:save note:…; action:remove clears your own notes here. Works without AI.

Public conversation plans may appear in the meeting reminder channel. Command notes remain limited to their original channel. The owner can correct wording or remove notes here; editing a held note does not confirm it. Members can change or cancel in conversation, and /memory action:off stops automatic collection and reminder inclusion. Notes and source references are encrypted and expire seven days after the meeting (at most 120 days); backups have their own retention. They are separate from personal memories.

Select a forum to include all its threads. Empty means no AI replies. Direct messages are not supported.

When should the bot answer?

For any option without mentions, open the Discord Developer Portal, select your application, then choose Bot → Privileged Gateway Intents → Message Content Intent and enable it. Save here afterward; changing content access reconnects the bot. Mentions and /ask work without this intent.

Minimum seconds between unprompted reply attempts in a channel

How selective replies work

Selective mode checks locally for robotics/club questions or project updates before considering a written reply. When reactions are enabled, short robotics comments can also be considered. Messages addressed to other people are skipped. The AI can also choose silence. Candidate checks share your AI budget; a ten-minute channel cooldown applies by default, including after a failed or skipped attempt. Mentions, messages starting with OreBot or pasted @OreBot text, replies to the bot, and follow-up questions, requests such as “tell me about…”, or explicit clarifications within three minutes of your last bot exchange still receive normal answers within your member limits. If somebody speaks while an unprompted answer is being generated, that answer is discarded.

Member messages between reactions

Starts at three reactions per channel in a rolling 24 hours, with at least five new member messages before another reaction. Both limits include delayed show-and-tell reactions and survive restarts. Failed Discord delivery attempts also count. Silence is the default; the bot sees its last three reaction choices to avoid repetition.

One emoji at most: 👍 😂 🤖 🤯 🎉 🔧. Decisions share your AI allowance. Skipped and failed attempts also use the reaction cooldown; direct questions still receive normal answers.

Discord permissions and reaction behavior

In Discord, open the channel’s Edit Channel → Permissions and give ORE Bot View Channel, Read Message History, and Add Reactions. Missing permissions skip reactions. Successful reactions and delivery errors appear in .

Considers clear achievements and humour connected to robotics or projects; ordinary topic mentions and tentative plans do not qualify for immediate reactions. Serious concerns and messages addressed to other people are excluded. The AI can choose silence; it can write a reply only when the reply cooldown also permits.

All-message mode answers each new text message from people in the allowed channels and forum threads, subject to your cooldown and usage limits. It does not decide whether a message is a question. Tell members that their messages in these spaces will be sent to your AI provider.

Images in questions

Let the bot see photos attached to questionsEnabled by default. Applies to direct questions, conversational follow-ups, /ask’s optional image, and all-message replies.

Up to two JPEG, PNG or WebP attachments, each up to 8 MB. Photos are sent to the AI provider and model configured in Bot setup; choose a model that accepts image input. Only attachments on the current question are included, not earlier pictures, link previews or videos. Image input counts toward the shared token allowance. Catch-up stays text-only; delayed show-and-tell has its own photo switch below. OpenRouter image-input guide.

Web search for answers

Let the bot search when an answer needs itUseful for current information, technical documentation, and upcoming public events.

Maximum web searches per answer

Explicit lookups, current-status questions, requests to find robotics clubs or makerspaces, robotics competitions, questions about new hardware, and hardware clarifications request a search before answering. Other questions also have the search tool available: the model decides whether freshness or uncertainty warrants using it. It can answer ordinary chat without searching. Search uses the same AI connection as every other answer. Unsupported features are disabled automatically. All searches share this limit (default 2). Available for direct conversations, /ask, all-message answers, and panel tests. Unprompted selective participation and reaction decisions do not search. Search results appear as links alongside the answer; if the provider supplies no inline citation placement, a short source line is added.

Search costs, privacy, and limits

Search uses the provider selected in Bot setup, its account balance, your shared request/token allowance and response timeout. DeepSeek native search can incur additional model tokens; OpenRouter search has its own charges. It is separate from the bot’s article-reading limit. Topic queries go to the search service; the bot is instructed to omit private member and club details. Up to five source links are collected per answer; the provider may inspect additional results internally. Request details in Activity & usage show why a lookup was required, citation counts, and the number of searches when reported by the provider. Missing search counts are marked as unreported.

Choose 0–3,600 seconds. Zero removes the wait between a member’s questions; request/token limits and the two-request concurrency limit still apply.

These instructions apply to conversations and panel answer tests, not news drafts. Give the bot room to joke, have opinions, or explore a useful tangent. It can use saved article research for follow-ups; it can also search when Web search for answers is enabled above. Personality changes affect how it writes; reply triggers and cooldowns still control when it speaks.

Enable & privacy

Let members know: messages considered for bot answers or reactions, up to two previous exchanges with it in the same channel/thread, and the club reference are sent to the selected AI provider. Short conversation context expires after 30 minutes and clears on restart. When personal memory is enabled, a few hobby notes are stored separately and sent to the provider when relevant. /memory shows those notes; /forget clears saved notes from the current channel and short context. Manage learning and retention under Member memories.

I’ve informed members in the allowed channels that messages considered for bot answers or reactions, including enabled question images, are processed by an external AI provider.

How reasoning works & supported models

With a Low default, a local check raises effort for technical troubleshooting, detailed design/calculation questions, or an explicit “think harder” request. It makes one AI call. Ordinary chat and selective reactions stay on Low. This is a heuristic and may miss a difficult question.

Supported for OpenRouter model IDs z-ai/glm-5.3-flash and z-ai/glm-5.3, and direct DeepSeek models deepseek-flash, deepseek-v4-flash and deepseek-v4-pro. Low is the quickest thinking setting offered here. Other models keep their provider defaults. News, weekly writing, and memory learning keep their existing settings. Output-token limits still apply.

Activity & usage shows the requested effort and reason alongside request duration. Panel test answers use these chat settings too.

Keep the conversation connected

Uses relevant member memories and conversation context already available. OreBot can acknowledge a specific change; it will not schedule check-ins or compare old photos it cannot see. Member memory controls still apply.

Offers a relevant saved link in an answer or an existing delayed show-and-tell response, with credit and an original-message link where available. Same channel only. Requires the links shelf, Read Message History and the community notice under Privacy.

It never asks why nobody replied. An immediate emoji can still use the existing selective reaction settings.

Up to eight notes per member. Only notes learned in the current channel/thread can inform a reply, with at most three relevant notes included. Automatic learning waits two quiet minutes and considers at most three recent member messages; it does not archive conversations or learn from reactions and silent monitoring.

Projects expire after 90 days; equipment, interests, and preferences after 180. Explicit and owner-edited notes are protected from automatic replacement. Disabling memory pauses use and learning; saved notes still expire. Members can inspect notes with /memory, save one with /remember, or clear them and opt out with /memory action:off.

Tell members this is enabled. Notes are encrypted in storage; relevant notes and brief learning requests go to the configured AI provider. Learning uses the . Backups have their own retention.

Choosing a forum includes its threads. Only selected channels are monitored; the moderator channel, bots, webhooks, and the moderator role are excluded. The bot cannot inspect DMs between members or messages sent while it is offline.

One domain per line, without https:// or a path. Includes subdomains. This flags links for review; it does not block them. Links are never opened.

Cross-channel detection uses the repeat window above. Bursts count separate messages, including attachment-only messages. Repetition compares normalized text and attachment names/sizes; it does not inspect image contents. If join time is unavailable, the ordinary threshold applies. Counters reset on reconnect or moderation-setting changes.

After a confirmed timeout, delete detected spam messages (up to 20). Deletions cannot be undone.

Give the bot Moderate Members and Read Message History; for cleanup, also Manage Messages in monitored channels. Place its role above ordinary member roles. Administrators, members with Manage Server or Moderate Members, and your moderator role are protected. Existing timeouts are not replaced. Findings detected while alert-only or offline are not acted on retroactively.

Create a separate writable channel, such as #spam-trap-do-not-post. Put a prominent warning in its name, topic and pinned message: posting here triggers spam containment. The bot watches this channel even if it is not listed above. It must not be a normal discussion, introduction, or bot-posting destination.

I have checked this is a dedicated trap channel with a clear do-not-post warning.

Every ordinary member message here is a strong match, including attachments. Staff and bots remain exempt. Humans can trigger it too; the timeout can be lifted from the case. Honeypots do not catch private-message scams or accounts that avoid the trap.

Also enable Discord’s built-in spam and mention filters under Server Settings → AutoMod. They can block messages before posting. Discord’s setup guide.

Enable automatic monitoringFirst enable Message Content Intent in the Discord Developer Portal under your application’s Bot tab. Changing this setting may reconnect the bot.

Member reports & retention

Enable /reportMembers can describe a concern and optionally supply a Discord message link. Their confirmation is private. Reports do not require Message Content Intent or an AI provider.

Reports are unverified claims. DM links are recorded but cannot be read by the bot. Reports are limited to one per member every five minutes and 50 per rolling day for the server.

Tell members when monitoring is enabled. Flagged excerpts (up to 1,000 characters), up to 20 cleanup excerpts of 250 characters, action records, user IDs, and submitted reports are encrypted in the database and retained for up to 30 days, capped at 1,000 cases. Only the latest 100 appear below. These records are never sent to an AI provider. Backup copies have their own retention.

How feedback is used

One current preference per member and article; a new preference replaces the previous one. Saves are limited to five per member per UTC day. The latest 100 entries are kept encrypted; prompts use at most 12 examples, with two per member and three per article. Member identities and reply links are not included in the feedback sent to the AI provider.

A new random target between the minimum and maximum is saved after each story post, including manual or requested posts. Defaults: 3–7 days, with early stories after at least 24 hours. AI assessment uses its own exceptional-story threshold below; keyword mode uses the threshold above. Check suggestion cards to calibrate the threshold. The first story also waits for its target unless it qualifies for early sharing. These rules apply only when scheduled publishing is enabled. Manual posts and chat requests have no schedule delay. Use a text channel or active thread; news never pings members.

What makes a story worth sharing?

Accept member discoveriesUse /suggest-story or a message’s Apps → Suggest for discoveries action. Public links are read and assessed using your shared allowances when discovery and assessment are enabled. Review them with the Member suggestions filter; approval is required before automatic drafting or sharing. Up to five new links per member and 30 per server daily.

Feedback is saved without an AI call. To receive replies without a mention, enable Message Content Intent in Discord and message content access in Conversations. Turning this off stops collection and excludes saved member feedback from future assessments.

What ORE finds interesting

Exceptional-story score for early posting · 0–100

Starts at 65 for a worthwhile story and 90 for an exceptional one. The AI must also identify enough substance to recommend sharing. Routine help threads, polls and team-specific troubleshooting should usually stay below the cutoff. Low scores and insufficient context stay in separate review filters; you can still draft or post any story manually.

How assessment works and what it costs

A preliminary check screens the title and excerpt. Promising stories are read and assessed again against the source material; current saved evidence can be reused. This can use two AI requests plus page reads. Missing evidence and commercial/research exceptions stay in review. The same editorial taste and your explicit feedback guide web discoveries and weekly issues. Scores are judgments, not guarantees. Requests share Bot setup allowances. Changing preferences, feedback, models or read evidence makes old assessments stale; changing the cutoff filters current scores immediately. New and stale suggestions are assessed while news is enabled. Draft edits are preserved.

Keyword preferences and event rules

Keyword scores combine topic matches with event timing. They remain visible on cards and determine ordering when AI assessment is off; they do not override an AI rejection. Event exclusions still apply with either scoring method. Events within 14 days (or happening now) gain 3× the event weight; within 30 days, 2×; within 90 days, 1×. Known past or cancelled events lose 5× and are skipped by scheduled posts and news requests. Clearly labelled recaps/results lose 3×. Publication dates are not event dates; unknown dates get no upcoming-event boost. Review each card’s score and reasons. You can still post an item manually.

One phrase per line. These affect ordering, while inclusion/exclusion filters determine what is collected. Defaults favor your hobby, unusual, local, and competition interests and lower the priority of funding, stock-market, acquisition, and military stories.

The bot’s news voice

Builds on the shared personality in Bot setup. Give it editorial freedom or specify a tone. The bot chooses the angle, length, and structure; paragraphs, jokes, and closing questions are optional. Recent news drafts and posts help it avoid repeated phrasing. Chat response preferences do not apply here. Facts still need source support.

Loads the suggested news voice into this field. Save settings, then generate again to try it; existing drafts stay as they are until regenerated.

Page downloads are cached for 24 hours (failures for one hour). Saved article evidence lasts 30 days; structured event evidence must be rechecked after 24 hours before automatic use. Source links are appended to posts. Saved public evidence can inform follow-ups in the exact channel or thread where the story was posted. Reading sources does not independently verify their claims. Story research reads discovered links; the Weekly digest has separate web-search controls. Video content is not read.

Automatically write contextual draftsWhen daily discovery is enabled and an AI provider is configured, turn new suggestions into conversational posts using your AI usage allowance. Prepared drafts can be reviewed, shared on request, or used by optional scheduled publishing.

Enable scheduled publishingWith daily discovery enabled, publish the highest-ranked prepared, unposted story when due. Requires a positive score and a known publication date. Fresh exceptional stories can post ahead of the random target when enabled above. Leave off for manual and requested sharing only.

Research a few discoveries from the wider web and turn them into a small robotics column, with source links. This has its own channel and schedule, separate from occasional story posts.

Uses the shared personality and community context from Bot setup. Describe the writing you enjoy; concrete examples help. Titles, themes, jokes, and closing questions are optional. Sources appear as inline links.

Maximum web searches per issue attempt

1–100 searches. This is a ceiling; the model may use fewer. More searches need more time and AI allowance. The total results limit below can stop research earlier.

Two AI requests per attempt: web research, then writing. Research and writing use the same AI connection. Weekly research is unavailable when that connection cannot search. Both share the AI allowances; OpenRouter web search has additional charges. DeepSeek search reuses its saved API key and model; OpenRouter search needs a model with tool support. Reads also use the daily article allowance in news settings. Enable article research there first. Failed reads count; cached pages do not.

Automatically research and post the weekly digestAt the scheduled time, prepare and send one issue. Enabling this within 12 hours after the scheduled time can post today’s issue immediately. If you already generated a preview for that issue, it will be used. Research failures get up to three attempts, at least an hour apart, within a 12-hour catch-up window. Unconfirmed deliveries wait for your review.

Save settings before generating. Leave automation off to review and post each issue yourself. Previews cover the upcoming issue (or the current issue within its 12-hour window). Longer columns are split into a few Discord messages. Link a phrase to a source with [project name][1]; the bot inserts the source URL. Research looks for recent discoveries and upcoming local events; source dates can still need editorial review.

Start over with your saved sources

Clear all unposted suggestions, including dismissed and expired ones, their drafts, relevance scores and per-story research. Then scan your saved feeds and websites again. Posted history, settings, AI usage and shared article caches stay. This cannot undo a Discord post or reset your daily allowances. Finish active drafting/assessment batches and resolve uncertain deliveries first.

Review selection & refresh drafts

Use your saved prompts to refresh drafts. Retry unfinished items to keep the drafts that already worked.

Reassessment updates scores and reasons using saved preferences, while keeping your draft text. Bulk rewrites include only stories above the relevance cutoff when assessment is enabled. Individual drafts and manual posts remain available.
